Excursion to the Sedlice hydroelectric power station

On 13 April 2026, students of our school set out with their teachers on a study excursion to the Sedlice hydroelectric power station, which lies on the river Želivka near Pelhřimov. This unique technical gem was built between 1921 and 1927.

During the tour, students had the chance to examine at close quarters the original Francis turbines and generators, which have been running reliably here since the very beginning and still produce clean electricity today. A great experience for the students was the walk along the masonry gravity dam itself and the visit to the Vřesník balancing reservoir, with which the power station forms a single working unit. The excursion showed the students clearly how the mechanical energy of water is efficiently converted into electrical energy, and also what an important role this power station played in the early days of the electrification of our country.

The students of our school enjoyed the excursion, as the words of some of them show:

Tomáš Fajman: "I enjoyed the whole trip. Even though the wind was blowing, we had a good time. What I liked most was the tour of the hydroelectric power station, because we saw how electricity is produced. It was also nice to be outdoors and to spend time with my classmates in a different way than in the classroom. I think this trip was a success and I will certainly remember it."

Pavel Skala: "What interested me most was the tour inside the power station. We saw the turbines and other equipment at close range. It was quite noisy there, but it was worth it. I enjoyed the trip because it was interesting and I learned new things."
